Under Article 31, Town Meeting members approved funding for 11 diverse projects recommended by the Community Preservation Committee (CPC). The projects utilize funds generated through the Community Preservation Act (CPA), which Milton voters adopted in 2020 to support open space, historic preservation, and affordable housing.
CPC Chair Tom Callahan provided an overview of the committee’s impact, noting that the town has awarded nearly $5 million for 50 different projects across Milton since the act's inception. This year's approved list includes the restoration of the Pine Grove at Winter Valley, a new playground for the Tucker School, the Monatiquot River Estuary project, and the construction of a combined basketball and bocce court at the Town Center.
Callahan noted that the town typically has about $1 million available each year for these projects, bolstered by a state match. The committee received 13 applications this year and recommended funding for all but two, ensuring a wide distribution of funds across various town priorities.
Motion: That the town vote to approve the projects, funding sources, and amounts shown in the tabulation as printed in the warrant under the heading CPA project funding recommendations and that all projects must enter into grant agreement with the town.
