Town Meeting Approves $60,000 Appropriation for Upcoming November Special Election
Key Points
- $60,000 appropriated from free cash
- Funds the special election on November 4, 2025
- Passed with near-unanimous support
In the opening session of the October Special Town Meeting, members voted decisively to approve Article 1, which allocates $60,000 to fund the town’s upcoming special election scheduled for November 4, 2025. The funding is intended to cover the administrative and operational costs associated with the election and registration budget.
Warrant Committee Chair Jay Funling explained that the appropriation ensures the town has the necessary resources specifically designated for the election. Voting yes on this article means we have the proper money in the proper budget,
Funling said. If this article does not pass, we'll have to scramble and get money from a different budget.
Select Board Chair Ben Zul noted that the board voted unanimously to support the measure. The funds will be drawn from the town’s free cash reserves. The November 4 election is set to fill a vacancy on the Select Board, following recent procedural announcements by Moderator Elizabeth Dylan.
Motion: To amend the appropriations voted by the 2025 annual town meeting by increasing the amount appropriated for the election and registration budget by $60,000, to be appropriated from free cash.
Vote: Passed 204-1-0
