Key Points
- Establishment of a Tax Title Collection Revolving Fund under MGL Chapter 60, Section 15B.
- Aims to assist the Treasurer/Collector in recovering delinquent tax titles.
- Received unanimous support from the Select Board and Warrant Committee.
In a move to streamline the town's financial recovery processes, Town Meeting members voted overwhelmingly to approve Article 34, establishing a Tax Title Collection Revolving Fund. The new fund, created under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 60, Section 15B, is designed to assist the Treasurer/Collector in managing the costs associated with collecting delinquent taxes.
Select Board Chair Winston Daly spoke in favor of the measure, noting that the board had thoroughly reviewed the legal language. The select board reviewed all the language within and we encourage the board to move forward with this article,
Daly told the assembly. Warrant Committee Chair Jay Funing indicated that his committee also supported the move without further comment.
The establishment of the fund comes as Milton continues to monitor its long-term fiscal health. By creating a dedicated revolving fund, the town can more efficiently manage the legal and administrative expenses required to process tax titles, ensuring that these costs are covered by the collection activities themselves rather than the general fund.
Motion: That the town vote to accept the provisions of Massachusetts general laws chapter 60 section 15B as recommended by the select board to establish a tax title collection revolving fund for the treasurer/collector.
Vote: Passed 190-0-2
