Milton Authorizes $1.7 Million for Major Infrastructure and Sewer Rehabilitation Projects

Key Points

  • $1.15 million combined for water and sewer system rehabilitation
  • $277,000 approved for a new storm water management plan
  • Easement approved at the landfill for golf course and gas station utilities

In a rapid series of votes, Town Meeting approved seven articles related to town infrastructure, public works, and utility easements. The largest appropriations included $677,180 for water system rehabilitation (Article 36) and $480,000 for sewer system repairs (Article 34), continuing the town's aggressive efforts to modernize aging underground utilities.

The body also approved $324,296 in Chapter 90 funding for road improvements (Article 32) and $277,000 for a mandated storm water management plan (Article 35). A utility easement at the town landfill was granted under Article 33. Selectman James McCarthy clarified for residents that the easement was for standard utility poles to support the landfill golf course project and a gas station, rather than for telecommunications towers.

Other approvals included $3,500 for easements related to the Adams Street Bridge (Article 31) and a lease-purchase agreement with Boston Edison for town streetlights (Article 37). All infrastructure articles requiring a two-thirds majority passed unanimously, signaling strong consensus on maintaining town assets.
