Milton Discharges 1998 Coordinating Committee After Finding No Remaining Funds

Key Points

  • Committee established in 1998 officially dissolved
  • Confirmation that no funds remained in the committee's name
  • Part of a town-wide effort to eliminate inactive municipal groups

Town Meeting members voted to dissolve the Coordinating Committee under Article 8, ending a group originally established by the 1998 Town Meeting. The move was part of a broader effort to clean up inactive committees that have completed their tasks or ceased to meet. The discharge came after an inquiry from the floor regarding the committee's financial status and whether any taxpayer money remained in its accounts.

Member Richard Livingston questioned the Warrant Committee about the treasury balance for the Article 51 committee from 1998, as well as several other aging committees. Warrant Committee Chair Glenn Pavlovich clarified that the Coordinating Committee was never granted an appropriation, stating there were no funds remaining to be returned to the general treasury. There was no appropriation for Article 51, thus no funds remained, Pavlovich informed the body.

The vote passed with a clear majority, though one member remained in opposition. The discharge of this committee reflects the town's current focus on streamlining municipal governance and ensuring that the list of active town committees reflects current needs and available resources.
